A Mother's Story

Guiding Light Mission

Do you ever wonder where a changed life begins?

Does it begin as a daily patron receives a plate of warm food from a smiling face or shares a good laugh with a volunteer?  Does it begin when a disabled nightly patron is helped into bed by a man who is in the recovery program? Does it begin when a client admits their powerlessness over the substances that have controlled their lives?  Does it happen when a client humbly asks Jesus to come into his life?

At Guiding Light Mission the answer is “All of the above.”

For over 50 years Guiding Light Mission has served as a place of grace for the homeless and hurting in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Day and night, Guiding Light Mission has sought to offer a cup of cold water in Jesus name to those looking to meet their basic needs.  Homelessness and/or addiction do not happen overnight nor do its remedies.  Yet Guiding Light has sought to be a consistent support to those who are willing to take the next step towards a life of stability.  Through innovative programs it seeks to empower and encourage people to fulfill their potential as renewed children of God.
